Window To Your Soul

BY BRETT BIRKILL

The amazing feeling you get when looking into someone’s eyes, especially someone you love. At times it can feel like you are looking past their eyes and deep into their soul, discovering more and understanding things that cannot be said, only felt. A happy dance style song that allows feelings of joy when moving and looking deep into someone’s soul. Your eyes, the window to your soul.

My Heart Will Never Die

BY BRETT BIRKILL

A love song, written by Brett to his wife Wandy.  A love song for everyone.  A love song for that special person in your life who you cherish and care for.

The helping light you shine in the middle of the night is a special line for Brett as every time Brett gets up out of bed, any time of the night, Wandy always wakes and turns on her mobile phone light so that Brett doesn’t trip over anything.  This shows Wandy’s care and love and Brett writes a key part of the lyrics around this nightly occurrence.  A song for Wandy.

Star of the Show

BY BRETT BIRKILL

Brett often feels that the hardest part is to start when considering opportunities or taking on a challenge.  Today with so much outside influence and social media giving reasons why things will be too hard, many choose not to start for fear of failure.  Also, facts are that many will try and have hardship and fail meaning a second, third, fourth try is often required to win.

No matter what, have a try, if it fails go again and the end result with this mindset will be you ending up as the Star Of The Show.

Elm Tree

BY BRETT BIRKILL

A song written for that special soul who is no longer with us.  A happy song to remember those who have departed.  A brother, a father, a mother, a great friend, thinking of all of those special memories over a lifetime of connection that continues.

This song was written by Brett in memory of his old best mate ‘Billy’.  Billy was the family dog, a small dog with an infectious smile and huge heart.

You were always around to stand by me is a line written in memory of the times Billy used to sit next to Brett late at night when his wife Wandy was sick with Cancer.  Brett at the time was building an up and coming workwear business with his wife Wandy and Billy used to drive in a van, pick up stock and move from warehouse to warehouse often until approx. 3am to cover the absence of Wandy at the time. Billy was by Brett’s side night after night.  This was the winter of 2007.

Oh you rest under a weeping elm tree - After Billy passed away he was buried at his favourite spot.  Under an Elm Tree, at the top of the hill, Sales Rd Gladysdale farm.  Dedicated to Long, Chanel and Linda.

Definitely Can

BY BRETT BIRKILL

Definitely Can defines the human spirit, encompasses the will to fight back and never give up despite tough times that are often present in life.  When times are tough, and too much shit just goes wrong all at the one time it’s a Definitely Can attitude that will reverse fortunes and turn the bad luck into good.

This song was written by Brett about some of his family’s times that came about in the early 1990’s.  Brett often hesitates to bring these times up but for Brett it was one of the greatest periods and lessons in his life and a time that defined his mindset and attitude for the rest of his life.  When the times were playing out things weren’t great but to see the way his family fought on and punched through has been a life inspiring event.  Out of bad there was so much good and Brett’s family displayed all of the characteristics that people talk about – never give in, determination, strength, a willingness to just have a go and do your best no matter what.

It Just Has To Be

BY BRETT BIRKILL

Brett played a lot of Aussie Rules Football earlier in his life and has played on the hallowed turf of the MCG.  He is also a mad lifelong Collingwood Football Club supporter a team in the Australian Football league.  In 2018 Collingwood lost the Grand Final by one kick in the dying seconds of the game after leading all game.  It was a devastating ending for all Magpie fans.  This song re lives some of those moments, making reference in different parts of the song regarding the result and the eventual winner the West Coast Eagles - So close until the last……Fly up high like an eagle……Left us all with none.

Next time there is another chance for a Grand Final chance it needs to be taken and It Just Has To be.

Aside from Collingwood this song was written to inspire and conjure thoughts of success and winning no matter what the odds.  At different times in life there has to be a line in the sand and you just have to take the chance right there and then whatever it may be as often these chances never come back again.  Sometimes the line ‘there is always tomorrow’ actually doesn’t occur as no two teams year to year are ever exactly the same.  No business ever remains the same and even on an individual level life and the circumstances surrounding it alter often without plan.  Whilst it seems a situation may last forever or at least a long time, in most cases this is not the case and therefore the time needs to be now.  It Just Has To Be………now, today, not later!

Down Under

BY BRETT BIRKILL

One of Brett’s great joys is the country he lives in, Australia, often referred to as Down Under.  Brett writes this song with memories from being a young kid, listening to his mum sing along to one of her favourite songs ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ by Peter Allen.  The happiness that his mum always showed listening to that song provided the inspiration to write Down Under.

A song about a great country written for his mum.

Mind Tears Apart

BY BRETT BIRKILL

Mind Tears Apart tries to touch on explaining the way in which your mind often does or tries to pull you into a bad spot.  For some, this negative mindset and constant voice drives them to depression, drugs, alcohol and causes events that lead to many negative consequences, even suicide.  Currently in Australia, the biggest killer for males aged between 16 and 44 is suicide.  Suicide alone kills more than Cancer, car accidents etc.  But, by taking control and keeping positive and looking for the good, anyone can turn this around and deliver what we all should strive to achieve and that is a happy and fulfilling life.

Forever young you could be a star allows thoughts to the person in this negative position that no matter what, no matter when, people can achieve great things at any time of their lives and positively enrich others and in turn help their own mindset and wellbeing.  It is never too late to start and achieve anything.  This doesn’t need to be money success, it can be an enriching event with nothing materialistic involved whatsoever.

No matter what the predicament, everyone has a hidden power inside and this has been proven over and over again throughout the world with so many who have achieved great things from a start that seemed hopeless.

Window to Your Soul (remix)

BY BRETT BIRKILL

This remix had to happen after the great success of the original and it called for more beat, faster pace and a call to the dance floor.  Working with Spike Leo we set out to input a classic beat, one that resonates with those who love to groove. This one is for EJ, a great mate of Brett’s and part of a great group of friends.  Remembering a special weekend at Byron Bay, late one night on the Railway Hotel dance floor.

Combining the amazing feeling you get when dancing to a beat and looking into someone’s eyes (not EJ’s!), especially someone you love.  At times it can feel like you are looking past their eyes and deep into their soul, discovering more and understanding things that cannot be said, only felt.  A happy dance style song that allows feelings of joy when moving and looking dep into someone’s soul.

Your eyes, the window to your soul.

Trees and the Ocean

BY BRETT BIRKILL

Something that Brett thinks of a lot, nature, the wind, trees and all we are blessed with. The fact that often we seem to not appreciate this and the unbelievable world we have and, as a consequence, time moves on by so fast consumed with some much stuff that means very little.

Take time to enjoy, think and be with the things you love and remember that life moves so fast, flashing right on past.  When it’s all over there will be so much to regret you missed if you don’t look and experience it now.
